More Air Quality Study Results Announced

On June 7, the Let's Be Totally Clear team headed to Natchitoches for a press conference to announce the results of another study of the air quality in local bars and music venues. Like many before it, the study revealed that air in Natchitoches-area bars was “hazardous," according to EPA standards.

Previous air quality studies have examined bars in Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and Alexandria.

The study was conducted in April by The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living and data analysis was provided by the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center's School of Public Health. It assessed the impact of environmental tobacco smoke on indoor air quality by measuring indoor air pollution levels. Samples were collected using a direct reading instrument to measure the air particles in both smoking and non-smoking bars  and Dr. Daniel Harrington, assistant professor in the LSUHSC School of Public Health, provided an analysis of the test results .

In addition, the Natchitoches Times covered the press conference and provided a nice summation of the study's data.
